The Psycho trip of 2006 !!!
In 2006, the Finks embarked on a psychotic trip through Europe, that included 4 (as it turned out, 5) countries in only 12 days.
The first leg was washed in Norfolk when our plane from Newark was delayed for rain. By the time it arrived, we should have already been in Newark! Needless to say, we missed our connection. We were re-routed to a different airline, but they forgot to tell the originator, so our luggage was not shipped! Plus, instead of flying to our destination directly, we went through Heathrow! AND we had to transfer to yet another airline.
Heathrow also has a ONE carry-on rule, unlike the rest of the world which allows one carry-on plus a purse or briefcase. So we had to check a bag each, before we could proceed and get new boarding passes.
We finally arrived in Frankfurt, Germany and only the bags we had checked in London had arrived. Bruce had packed a change of clothing in his back-pack, I had not. We checked into our hotel and did the best we could.
Our first full day, we had rented a car to drive to Leige, Belguim, to visit the cemetary where Bruce's namesake is buried. That was very surreal and sad. Seeing your husband's name on a headstone is not fun.
On the drive back to Frankfurt, we stopped in Cologne since it was so close. We saw one of the only buildings that survived he bombings during the war, a large cathedral.
When we returned to the hotel in Frankfurt, our luggage had been delivered from the airport. THANK YOU!!!
Bright and early, we were finally able to put on fresh clothes and begin the exploration of Frankfort am Main. We took the boat tour on the Main. That was fun, and we got some good pictures.
